Back to school!! I miss my DD being gone all day!! And just how did my BABY get to be in the 8th grade?? I am NOT old!!
Anyway...I wanted to make something for her new teachers. She will only have 2 main teachers this year!! So much better than 7 like last year!! We looked around the Internet and finally came across this: Teachers Survival Kit. It has so much fun stuff in it. Since we found several different ones, we used bits and pieces from several different lists. Plus we came up with a couple of our own to add!! I bought 2 CD wooden crates from the clearance isle at Michael's. They were perfect. I painted them white, added the black and white papers to the sides and ends. I cut apples out with my cricut and then used scissors to cut out the bite and leave just the core. I printed out the list and the prayer and matted them on black and red cardstock.
Here is the list of what we added to our kit:
Teachers Survival Kit
Animal Gummies for when your classroom seems like a zoo.
Air Horn, to get your students attention.
Band-Aids to heal hurt feelings.
Bouncy Ball because you'll bounce back tomorrow.
Bug Repellent for when your students are bugging you.
Chewing Gum to help you stick to it.
Clothes Pins to help you “hang in there.”
Crayons to color your day bright and cheerful.
Candle for when you are up late grading papers.
Ear Plugs for when you just can't take it anymore.
Eraser to remind you everyone makes mistakes.
Fan for when things get blown out of proportion.
Flashlight just to brighten your day.
Flower Seeds to remind you that everyday you are planting seeds for the future.
Laffy Taffy because laughter is the best medicine.
Lifesavers For when you've had one of those days.
Lollypop so you can lick your problems.
Marbles to replace the ones you've lost.
Matches for when you need to light a fire under your students.
Mounds Bar for the mounds of confidence you give your students.
Paperclips to hold it all together.
Payday cause the next one is coming.
Peanuts for when you and your class are feeling nutty.
Pencil to "write your wrongs."
Pencil Sharpener for when things get dull.
Radio for when you need to tune your students out.
Rubber Band to remind you to be flexible.
Sandpaper to smooth out rough days.
Shiny Penny to remind you that each will shine in his or her own special way.
Smiley Sticker so you always remember to smile.
Sponge to help soak up the overflow when your brain is too full.
Starburst to give you a "burst" of energy when you need it.
Tissues to wipe away the tears...yours and theirs.
Toothpick to help you "pick" out the good qualities in others and yourself.
Tootsie Roll so you can roll with the punches.
Wiggly Eyes for when you REALLY wish you had eyes in the back of your head,
and a Prayer for you to say at the start of each day.
The Prayer:
God, please help me,
to strengthen their voices,
bodies and minds,
to express their feelings and
control them sometimes,
to explore what's near
and venture afar,
but most important to love
who they are.

While looking for Teachers Kits, I came across a Survival Kit for Hair Stylists. It was so cute that I decided to make one for the sweet gal who does our hair. The heart on a stick sticking out the top, is her magic wand, and is removable!! Here's what's inside the kit:
Tootsie Roll : to help complaints "roll" off your back
Button : to remind you to sometimes button your lip
Dollar : for the tip you didn't receive
Rubber band : to remind you to be flexible
Mint : because you are worth a mint to your customers
Happy Face (Sticker) : to remind you to keep smiling
Paperclip : to help hold it all together
Lollipop : to help you "Lick" anything
Lifesaver : to remind you of the many times you have been a lifesaver
Magic Wand : to help you during the many times you are asked to be a magician
Bandaid : to heal your hurt feelings
Sweet & Sour Tarts : to remind you to appreciate the differences in others.
Gum : to remind you to "stick" with that difficult client
Starburst : to give you that burst of energy at the end of the day
Crayon : to correct that color job
Sand Paper : to smooth out the rough days

In the last post I mentioned that I was wondering about adding lace or something to my little fall basket?? Well...I found this great rust colored gimp at Joann's and added it to the basket along with a nice fall bow. I think it helped it!! What do you think??

I also made this little tag book to go in the basket. I don't like how the glue shows...not sure what to do about it.
